Since the Percival Stories trilogy is complete now, with the launch of Together in Percival, I tried advertising on Facebook. The jury is still out on how/if that will affect book sales, but it did get me a lot of new followers on FB, which is at least an opportunity to get those people (at least, those of them that are people and not bots) to be interested in my book. So I figured I’d better introduce myself and my writing.
I thought about getting someone (another writer, maybe?) to interview me, but decided to do it differently; I went to my local library as usual on Tuesday and asked everyone around what they would want to ask a new author they were thinking of reading. Then I answered each of those questions over the next few days. Because FB prefers sharing posts with photos, I accompanied each question with a photo of one of my bookshelves. There were 13 questions and I currently have 12 bookshelves (or shelves partially filled with books) so for the question about whether my cat goes kayaking with me, I posted a video of letting him explore the kayak on the dock to show his total lack of interest.
(For anyone trying to build readership, I can tell you that cats > books when it comes to views and reader engagement!)
If you’re interested in the answer to my questions, here are the direct links; these are public posts, so I’m not sure if you need a FB account, but anyone on FB can see these. And yes, some of these are the same questions authors always get asked. Two reasons for that, some of these came from kids, and so it’s new for them, and there’s probably a reason that if people keep asking the same question, maybe that’s the thing they’re most curious about.
- What kind of books are you interested in writing?
- What do you like to read?
- Where do you get your ideas?
- Who do you want to read your books?
- What’s your favorite color?
- What’s your favorite part of your own books? (Sorry, no link – this post has mysteriously vanished!)
- Who is your favorite author and what is your favorite book? (And, no, of course I don’t just have one favorite!)
- What’s your favorite part or quote from another author’s book?
- What would you never write about?
- Would you go back and change anything from your first novel, if you could?
- Have you ever fallen out of a kayak?
- Do you take your cat kayaking? (I answered these two in the same post)
- What’s your favorite name you’ve picked for a character?
And here, have several bookcases – these are ones my husband Ted made for our home gym, to go with the boat segments from our old rowing club.
